Contrast

1st John 1:5
I have a New style TV. It is a 46 inch, LED, HD. It is
awesome! When I first set it up I was amazed at all the
preset viewing options. I remember my moms old console one.
You had to set all the color controls and the contrast. You
would add more red, less blue and so on, until you got it
just right. Lastly you would add the contrast. It would
darken or lighten the background to heighten the colors.
The writing style of John the Apostle is rich in contrast.
Light verses dark, life verses death etc. Yesterday we
looked at light and darkness in general terms; today I want
us to look a little deeper.
John likens Light to truth. It begs the question, What is
Truth? I'm not speaking of relative truth, neither is John,
rather he speaks of Spiritual Truth. The truth revealed is
the Word of God. We can never separate THE Word (Jesus) and
The Word (scripture, The Bible). The Word became flesh in
the person of Jesus. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings
here, but how we "SEE" a subject in scripture is
unimportant. What is important is what Gods word says on
that subject. Anything less than that it is absolute
authority in spiritual matters and rule in our lives is an
exercise in "self". If we simply except or do as the Word
tells us, in time we will see the Wisdom of God and Romans
8:28 becomes clear. We demonstrate Wisdom and Faith by
doing as the Word says to do. We must never fall in the
trap of trying to shape The Word to our desires; it is an
abomination and an offense to God to do so. Darkness here
speaks of Sin and the World; as we said yesterday, a
groping in the dark unable to find our way.
God desires us to have the light of his Wisdom, so we don't
have to make due with blind wandering. It is our excepting
of his Lordship and the expression of our child-like FAITH
along with trusting our Loving Father, which sets our feet
on the firm path that is his Word. Contrast exists all
around us and there is room for gray. Caution needs to be
exercised as gray is the first symptom of Spiritual
blindness. Let us Pray:
Father, thank you for being the light of our way, it is
your love and guidance that makes us better children. Help
us to follow what you have laid in our hearts. When things
begin to gray, help us not fall into the darkness. If we
find ourselves groping in the dark Father, please help us
to find that light again. For it is not our desire fall
from your light. We want to be trusting in your love for
us. We ask this in your Jesus’ name. Amen.
